Baobab Arts offers both drop-in classes (usually scheduled weekly), as well as workshops that focus on traditional dance and/or percussion.

Acting & Drama Classes

Dance Classes

Learn traditional dances from the Ancient Empire of Mali (Mali, Guinee, Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal and The Gambia. Classes begin with a warm-up to prepare you for rhythms that will have every part of your body moving. You will learn technique and choreography, and leave feeling energized by an authentic experience. 

 

Accompanied by live percussion.

Workshops

Workshops are special events hosted by Baobab Arts for special guest teachers. These workshops are usually intensive and afford an opportunity to learn and gain experience over a concentrated period, usually a sequence of classes. Workshops may also feature an artist-in-residence.

Singing & Dance
Percussion Classes

Explore a variety of traditional West African drum rhythms guided by a Master Drummer who can provide context, and teach you to speak in the language of the drum. Classes focus on proper technique and repetition to give you practice playing different drum parts. 

 

All skill levels (including beginners) are welcome. Drum rentals are available with advance notice.
