Exhibition Assistant

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience with the activities involved in exhibition planning, production, installation. The successful candidate will have an interest in the arts, some experience in gallery presentation, and strong organizational skills to help us bring our first full-scale exhibition of crafts and instruments from Africa and the African diaspora to fruition.

This is a hybrid-working opportunity with flexible part-time hours.

Responsibilities will include:

Work with Us!

  • Assisting with the planning, coordination, preparation, and production activities related to exhibition installation and tear down

  • Assisting with the handling of objects, crafting and packing, undertaking related documentation in a database, and other collection management activities

  • Assisting with the coordination and oversight exhibition contractors working on art installations, build-out, painting, lighting, demolition and other preparation activities

  • Assisting with the securing of estimates, ordering, arranging delivery or pickup, and processing invoices for related exhibition installation and production supplies and materials as needed

  • Providing event support for artists talks, curators talks and other educational events when needed

  • Supporting all digital exhibitions activities as required

  • Ordering and installing vinyl designs for each exhibition and creating labels, didactic panels, signage and binder information for each exhibition

  • Research artists or art practices as needed

Candidates must demonstrate

  • Some previous experience in a related role

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to work collaboratively and constructively

  • Good reasoning and problem-solving ability

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)

  • Ability to make and keep deadlines

  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to juggle priorities as needed

  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised

  • Graphic design experience (an asset)

Salary: $18 per hour (short-term contract)
